Written for the series of advent services in my local church in 2016, this song reflects the services' overall theme of Jesus' birth heralding a new light by which to live. Taking in the journey to Bethlehem of Mary and Joseph as well as the shepherds' "new light" experience on the hilltop, this song reflects the fear and hope that those involved in the Christmas story would have experienced.

Originally played live on just ukelele at one of the advent services and again at the Watch Night service on Christmas Eve, this "studio" version tries to keep the intimacy of the unadorned piece intact but with some extra flourishes like a MIDI snare drum, synth washes and some glockenspiel.
