The Tunesmiths challenge that led to this track was to create a reggae piece. In my mind, I always associate reggae music with sunshine so it seemed natural to write a song about the summer. In reality, "Ready For The Summer" is more about longing for warmer weather and is sung from the slightly melancholic point of view of an onlooker sitting at the each of the beach watching others have fun.

I set about recording the song using mostly my acoustic guitar in as many ways as possible. This resulted in my acoustic being used for various rhythms parts, bass notes and scraped strings with the back of the guitar being drummed upon. A touch of accordion and some shaker were added to fill the sound out.

The sound of Broughty Ferry beach makes its third Tunesmiths appearance having previously featured on volumes one and two.
