With the challenge of writing a 'winter fandango', this piece was developed around the chord sequence of an at-the-time unfinished Christmas song called 'A New Light' that I had been working on. A fandango rhythm played at the lower end of the keyboard forms the basis of the piece whilst an improvised melody higher up the scale signifies the sharp frost of a cold winter. With the same chord sequence as the finished 'A New Light' and with improvised elements of the still-developing melody, this variation is a piece in its own right whilst still being an offshoot of the more developed article.
